Decision criteria

What decides which enclosure you need

Four things settle the type: what goes inside, how the wall is built, what the environment does to steel, and how the door has to open under pressure. Each option below states what it is right for.

Surface-mounted and recessed fire hose reel cabinets
01

Fire Hose Cabinets

Best for corridors and risers where a hose reel is the primary appliance. Fits swinging-arm and drum reels. Surface, recessed and semi-recessed. Louvered or glass door, with or without hose guide, and knock-out sprinkler provision where the design needs it.

Best-fit guidance

Four situations, and what we would quote

Most enquiries land in one of these. If yours does not, send the drawing and we will say which build is closest before you commit to a specification.

01

Hotel or office corridor

A combination cabinet usually settles the whole compliance line in one recess. Where the corridor only carries a reel, a recessed hose cabinet with a glass door reads better in a finished interior.

02

Coastal or chemical site

GRP for hydrant enclosures, or SS 316 once confirmed at inquiry. Powder-coated mild steel will look acceptable at handover and be unacceptable in three years.

03

Warehouse or car park

Surface-mounted steel with a louvered door. Recessing into a structural wall costs more in builder’s work than it returns in appearance where the wall is not seen.

04

Distributor stock programme

Standard sizes in one or two configurations, ordered at MOQ 200 pcs per model, so that the 35–45 day lead time applies rather than the custom-dimension 45–60.

Risk notes

What goes wrong when the choice is wrong

Cabinets are the line most often split off to a separate supplier, usually because the sizes are non-standard. These are the failures we see come back.

Sheet metal forming line for cabinet enclosures

Internal clearance measured to the wrong thing. A recess depth that suits a surface-mounted build will not take a recessed one. Give us the wall opening as well as the enclosure size, and say which way it is mounted.

Reel and door interfering. Swinging-arm reels need swing clearance that a drum reel does not. If the reel is not ordered from us, send its make and arm length with the cabinet dimensions.

Material picked for price, not for site. Powder-coated steel in a coastal plant is the most common cabinet complaint we hear, and it appears well after handover rather than at inspection.

Certification assumed rather than confirmed. Cabinets are made under ISO 9001 here. Product certification requirements differ by market, so tell us the destination and we will state what we can document rather than claim coverage we cannot evidence.

Choosing a supplier, not a size

What to check in a fire hose cabinet supplier before the drawing goes out

A cabinet is not a catalogue item you pick from a shelf — it is sheet metal work made to your dimensions. So the supplier question is really a fabrication question, and a trading company cannot answer any of the four below without asking someone else first.

  1. 01

Can they build to your drawing

External dimensions H×W×D to the drawing you send, not the nearest standard size. Ask what happens when the drawing assumes a fabrication method they do not run — the honest answer is a question back, not a quotation.

  2. 02

    Which materials they actually stock

Cold-rolled steel and SS 304 are the routine ones. SS 316 and GRP are confirmed at inquiry, and they are what a coastal or chemical site needs. A supplier who quotes SS 316 without confirming has not checked.

  3. 03

Whether the contents ship with the enclosure

Cabinets, reels, hoses and extinguishers come off the same site here and travel in one container. That removes the failure most project buyers have seen at least once: the enclosure arrives correct and the equipment inside it does not fit.

  4. 04

What the lead time is for your case, not in general

Standard sizes 35–45 days. Custom dimensions or special material 45–60 days. Sample review adds 15–20 days before bulk. MOQ is 200 pcs per model, so a mixed programme carries one threshold per cabinet type rather than one large one.

The same four questions, answered here

What those answers are at this factory

The list above is what to ask any cabinet supplier. Below are our own answers to it — including the part we cannot document yet, stated as such rather than left out. If you are still deciding which kind of supplier you need at all — a named brand, a stockist, or a factory — the supplier route and vetting checklist works through that question first.

Finished fire equipment staged for packing on the Minwen Fire plant floor

Self-owned fabrication, not a trading desk. Fujian Nan’an Minwen Fire Protection Technology Co., Ltd. has manufactured in Nan’an, Quanzhou since 2001, on its own site. A question about your drawing is answered by the people who would cut and form it — which is also why the answer sometimes comes back as a question instead of a price.

Scale you can plan against. 15,000 sqm of plant, 20 production lines and 193 people. Output runs at roughly 45 high-cube containers in a typical month. Read that as a planning reference, not as a slot held for your order — the schedule still gets confirmed per order.

Commercial terms stated before the drawing goes out. EXW, FOB Xiamen or CIF, on T/T with 30% deposit and the balance before shipment. Knowing the term early matters on cabinets, because enclosure volume moves freight cost more than it moves unit price.

Where our certification stops. The quality management system is certified to ISO 9001, and CCC can be supported across the current product lines. Market approvals specific to cabinets vary by destination, and we do not hold one for every market — name yours and we will tell you what documentation exists for it rather than what sounds reassuring.

Inquiry inputs

What to attach to a fire hose cabinet inquiry so the first quote is complete

A cabinet quote moves only as fast as the brief behind it. Seven fields decide the drawing, the material class and the schedule — send them together and the first answer is a real quotation instead of a clarification round.

RFQ field What to specify Why it matters
External dimensions & installation H×W×D in mm, plus surface, recessed or semi-recessed mounting Sets the fabrication drawing — the nearest standard size is not what gets quoted
Material & environment Cold-rolled steel, SS 304, SS 316 or GRP; indoor, coastal or chemical exposure Material is the first price driver and decides the corrosion class
Door & access Solid, louvered, glazing panel or break-glass; padlocking provision Inspection access rules differ by building type and authority
Interior contents Hose length and diameter, reel or rack, valve type, extinguisher count Confirms whether the equipment ships fitted inside the enclosure
Finish RAL 3000 standard, or an alternative RAL / stainless finish A custom colour typically adds 5–7 days to lead time on a small order
Project standard & documents The standard your project references, and which test documents the inspector asks for Fixes the approval basis before production, not during shipment
Quantity per type & timing Pieces per cabinet type (MOQ 200 pcs per model) and the date needed on site Standard sizes 35–45 days; custom dimensions or special material 45–60 days; sample review adds 15–20 days

Common questions

Questions buyers ask before inquiry

Can we appoint our own inspector before shipment?

Yes. Third-party pre-shipment inspection is supported, including SGS, Bureau Veritas and Intertek. Book it against the approved sample and the drawing rather than the catalogue photograph, so the inspector is measuring the dimensions you signed off.

Can you manufacture to custom dimensions?

Yes — custom sizing is part of standard production, not an exception. Send the dimensions (H×W×D), the installation type, the door configuration and the material preference. MOQ for custom dimensions is typically 200 pcs.

What materials are available?

Cold-rolled steel with red RAL 3000 powder coat is standard. Stainless steel 304 is a standard option. GRP is available for outdoor, coastal or corrosive environments. Stainless steel 316 for marine work is available once confirmed at inquiry stage.

What door configurations can I specify?

Solid sheet metal, louvered ventilated panel, polycarbonate or clear acrylic vision panel, and break-glass emergency panel. Most door types can be supplied with or without padlocking provision. Specify the preference at inquiry.

What is the standard powder coat colour?

Red RAL 3000. Other RAL colours are available on request, with white, grey and a stainless finish the common alternatives. A custom colour typically adds 5–7 days to lead time on a small batch.

Are your fire cabinets certified?

They are manufactured under ISO 9001 quality management. Product certification requirements for cabinets vary by market — for UL listing, an EN standard or a national approval, confirm the destination at inquiry and we will advise what documentation is available.

What exactly can be customized, and what has to stay standard?

External dimensions (H×W×D) to your drawing; material from cold-rolled steel, SS 304, GRP or SS 316 on confirmation; powder coat in red RAL 3000 as standard with the full RAL palette on request; glazing in clear acrylic, polycarbonate or break-glass; and door labels or nameplates for branded distribution. What stays fixed is the construction method — we build to the drawing, not to a different process.

Do you supply the hose reel and extinguisher as well?

Yes, and ordering them together is usually the point. Cabinets, reels, hoses and extinguishers come off the same site and travel in one container, which removes the case where the enclosure arrives correct and the equipment inside it does not fit.

Can cabinets ship with other fire products in one container?

Yes. Cabinets can be combined with extinguishers, hose reels, hoses and other products on a single purchase order and packed into one container. This is the normal arrangement for project supply and distributor stocking.

What is the lead time?

Standard sizes run 35–45 days from order confirmation. Custom dimensions or special materials run 45–60 days. Sample review is 15–20 days. Lead times move with the current factory schedule, so confirm at order stage.

Can I supply my own drawings?

Yes, in PDF or DXF, or as a detailed specification sheet. Without drawings, our technical team proposes the standard configuration closest to the requirement and sends technical drawings for your approval before production starts.

Can cabinets arrive with the hose reel already fitted?

Yes. Pre-assembled packages ship with the reel installed, which cuts assembly time on site. Tell us whether the hose should be on the reel and the nozzle attached. Note that pre-assembled units take more container space than flat-packed cabinets.

Can the cabinets carry our branding?

Yes. Door labels, nameplates and a custom powder coat colour are available for branded distribution. Send artwork with the order; production specifications are kept consistent across repeat batches.
